|
Greetings in the Lord! What a great information resource!
My name is Thomas Hulbert and I am a parishoner at the parish of de Helige Johannes de Doper in the Hauge in the Netherlands.
Fr. Adriaan, who wrote the biographical sketch of Archbishop John, is our parish priest. At 86 years, he is still serving or
at least attending liturgy every day. We have an icon of St. John in our church which was painted before his cannonization by
the synodal Church - it is more of a portrait - he is wearing glasses and holding a copy of an icon of the Mother of God.
One of his prayer ropes (a metal one) is ther as are his cuffs. There is a Dutch translation of his life with several of his
sermons and the akathist to him. We sell the book at our bookshop "Het Pad Van Valaam" in Amsterdam (email: pvvalaam@knoware.nl )
The parish also has a home page (also in English): <home.wanadoo.nl/orthodoxe.kerk.nl> Archbishop John is by far the most
influential member of the Church Triumphant in my life - he has been a part of every signifigant point in my life, from my conversion
to Orthodoxy from Eastern Religions to my marriage.
My wife and I are so gratefull to Archbishop John for the many wonders he has worked
in our lives - we have decided to adopt the serbian custom of "slava" just so he can be the patron saint of our family!
God Bless you all.

|
On July 6, 2000 in the Maricaban Orthodox Catholic Community, Mulawin, Marican, Pasay City, Metro Manila,
Philippines, served by the Catholic Apostolic Philippine Church, the congregation prayed for the
intercession of St. John Maximovitch, the Wonder Worker. There was flooding and storm for four days.
But on this date, floods stopped, no rains. We were able to push through with our investiture ceremony
and installation to the Order of the Acolyte. The Catholic Apostolic Philippine Church traces its origin
to the two Bishops consecrated by Bishop John Maximovitch during his stay in Tubabao Island in Samar Islan,
Philippines in 1949. Bishop Tirso Cinco Noble is the present living successor of Bishops David Estonactor
and Mariano Alvaran. Every Eucharistic celebration, we pray for St. John Maximovitch's intercessions.
The Catholic Apostolic Philippine Church identifies itself with the Orthodox Church, though un canonical
and independent.
Thank you.
Rev. Fr. Joseph G. Borreros, CSC, Vicar Apostolic.

I had the blessed joy, as a Deacon, to visit and venerate the Holy Relics of St. John Maximovitch,
in the summer of 1994, just a few weeks before my ordination to the Holy Priesthood.
As a priest, I've found myself facing difficult pastoral and administrative dicisions
and I often turn to Vladyka John for his help and intercession during these times.

|
During a recent visit to Stockholm, I entered a church on Skeppsholmen which I took to be Lutheran, but discovered when I entered it that
an Orthodox congregation (connected to the Kiev Patriarchate) also worshipped there. The people there were very devoted to St John,
and had photocopied part of Fr Perekrestovs book Man of God to study. They did not know that the entire book was available;
they were very happy to hear that they could obtain complete copies of it if they wished.
They wanted to hear from me everything I could tell them about Holy Virgin Cathedral and St Johns Relics,
when I told them that I live only a short distance from them. I was very grateful that I was able
in my small way to support this community in their devotion to the Saint.
Glory to God.

I've never heard of St. John Maximovitch so I've never had an experiences in that area. I checked out your website after reading
a review by you of PhotoTools 3.0. I was surprised to see the 'Fr.' in front of your name. I was raised Catholic so I noticed
that right away. Not something you usually see on computer software reviews. I thought it was pretty neat actually. Thanks for
the PhotoTools review - I think I'll be buying that - it sounds great!

Dear Father Jacob,
We would like to thank you very
much for this unspeakable sites. For years I wanted to see something like this.
My wife is also astonished and glorifies the Lord for giving us such a Saint!
Let me kindly ask you to pray for us to St. John Maximovitch. We are hoping to
make a trip to Jerusalem at the time of Pascha. We hope the Lord will vouchsafe us this
possibility through the intercession of St. John of Shanghai. The point is that we are in Egypt,
which is not friendly toward Israel.
God bless you on your Holy way! Russian sinners,

Thank you for this wonderful site! My husband and I are recently chrismated Orthodox Christians, and I chose St. John as my patron saint
after seeing his icon , before I really knew anything about him. It was almost as if he chose me. This site is the best source for information about Vladika I have found. Truly he
is one of the greatest saints of this age. Holy Saint John, pray to GOD for us sinners, for we are weak.

I like your website and have since I was a convert
in 1980 albeit in the new calendar GOA church of
Panaghia Pantovasilissa Lex Ky.
I made my first
contact with St. John in 1983 as a female serviceman
in the US Navy just stationed in San Diego Ca. I was
told by a Russian woman who went to St. Nectarios in
Seattle where he was at being buried under the
altar of Holy Virgin Cathedral in SF so I went for
temporary sea duty aboard a ship that was bound for
Alameda Naval Air Station in Alameda near Oakland
hopped aboard an AC Transit bus than got on BART
to SF and then walked quite aways before finally
getting exhausted and taking MUNI to 26th ave and
Geary Blvd. I like your website and I have been
checking it out for quite some time.
Pray for me
Holy Vladika John and if you can do a liturgy for me
in Heaven in Chinese if you like.

| At 2:32:25 PM on 2/17/00, "The feeling of meeting the Saint" from Vasiliki |
|
I remember when shortly after I had became a convert
albeit in a new calendar parish in Lex, Ky...
Panaghia Pantovasilissa Greek Orthodox Church that
getting some Paraphenalia from an Organization that
expounded upon the teachings of an excommunicated
person named Apostolos Makrakis, there was something
in this packet about Archbishop Vladika John of SF
and Shanghai. I couldnt put it away...had to post so
I could look at it. It seemed like it looked right
at me like he knew me but how could that be
considering he died long before he one chance to
meet a person like myself...and this was in the
1980's as employee at a restaurant owned by a Greek
Family that went bankrupt some several yrs later.
Then in 1983 when I first went to the Russian
Cathedral of the Holy Virgin in SF after a month
prior of going to Seattle and spending a couple of
weeks with 2 parishioners of St.Nectarios while I
was in the US. Navy stationed in San Diego Ca(which
was a shock from being in Ky Air National Guard
as a weekend warrior). The feeling of meeting the
Saint before he got cannonized in 1994 was like an
orphan getting welcomed. If I had a ton of sins on
me or not he didnt shy away from me. And when it was
my turn in the barrel to be put thru the legal ringer
due to some bad choices he didnt shun me then...
and just think I was living near the Cathedral on
just off of 27th Ave in 1994 when he was getting
cannonized and thanks to another bad choice I got
married out of the church and gave up on it...well
my second future ex woke me by cheating on the
internet and now I am trying to get back on my feet
for the past 3 yrs here in a crazy town named
Oakland(hey if you aint Oakland born and raised you
dont count worth a darn and this is one crazy town
compared to San Francisco and the conservatism here
is like pouring too much catsup on the fries
believe me.).
So Pray for me too Holy St. Vladika
Archbishop John Maximovitch and God Willing next
Chinese New Yrs do a liturgy too for me in Chinese
too.

|
In our Post-Christian era we especially need the intercessions of the Saints, and especially powerful are the prayers of St. John.
We must not forget that St. John is a modern intercessor not only for Russia or America, but for Serbia, China, France, the Netherlands,
and indeed the whole world.
There has never been a time when Orthdox Christians have not been martyred for their belief in Christ. Today we especially see
the persecution taking place in Kosovo, Serbia. St. John, who himself lived in Serbia, who was ordained a Reader, tonsured a monk,
ordained Hierodeacon, Hieromonk, and eventually consecrated Bishop there is a most ferverent intercessor, and not only the whole Serbian
land should pray to him for help, but all we Orthodox in the world should pray that St. John would intercede for, and give strength
to the persecuted Serbs.
This is a most informative and pious website, and I pray that its message, St. John's message, will reach many. May God reward all those who spread the Gospel.
I myself have been working on a website dedicated to Blessed Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) of Platina, a spiritual son of St. John. If anyone should like to visit it, the address is http://www.sisqtel.net/~williams/ It is not much, but it is my humble attempt to spread the glory of God and His saints.
With love in Christ,
the sinful Reader Alexis
